Last Minute Holiday Gift Idea – Sponsor an Animal

We have “adopted” a wolf from a North Carolina rescue organization – The Wolf Sanctum.  This was a birthday gift for my son who turned 11 last week.  At first I considered one of the national organizations (sorry NWF) but really wanted to know where the gift would go and with a quick search, I located the Wolf Sanctum here in my home state and only 3 hours away.

The $35 sponsorship includes a biography on the wolf I chose to adopt in my son’s honor, (Cheyenne, though skittish around adult males, she is friendly to children),  a certificate of appreciation personalized with his name, a decal showing others our support and photo.  In this case, I was also able to get this beautiful print from artist, Sandi Baker of Wolf Song Studios.

My son is crazy about nature and animals, and in particular, the wolf. Since the Wolf Sanctum is just a three hour road trip away, we now have one we can “call our own” and go visit and actually see her in person. It was so well received by him that he wants to sponsor one for his little brother for Christmas.  How can I say no to that?  And the Director of the Wolf Sanctum has been truly grateful for our support as well so this is a true win-win all the way around.

Of course both boys have asked for some of the hottest toys on the market and they will get one or two but I have a real good feeling that Cheyenne and the new wolf will be their favorite gifts of all.  They certainly are mine!

What animal adoption group or rescue organization is local to  you?  Is there one that would make a meaningful gift to a child in your life?
