Real Simple’s Daily Thought today is this…
“The manner of giving is worth more than the gift” – Pierre Corneille
Very timely of course as we are in the final countdown until Christmas. I admit, I’ve found myself getting a bit “Grinchy” about a few things and this helps to ground me in the real intention of gift giving.
- To give with sincerity – not just because I’m supposed to or have to.
- To give with thoughtfulness about what might make my recipient happy
- To give with love and kindness
- To give unconditionally with no expectation in return
Likewise on the receiving end, I hope to receive and
- To accept with sincerity
- To accept with appreciation for the thought (or not) put into the gift
- To accept with love and kindness
- To accept with unconditional gratitude regardless of the cost, effort, and so on as it relates to my gift to them
From a post last year and as my closing post before the holiday, I offer up these thoughts and gift suggestions once again. Best of all, no production, shopping, shipping or packaging involved! You can’t be any kinder to the environment around you than that…
To your enemy, forgiveness.
To an opponent, tolerance.
To a friend, your heart.
To a customer, service.
To all, charity.
To every child, a good example.
To yourself, respect.
