As I continue to rid myself of those toxic bad guys still lurking in dark corners of my cabinets, it’s been great to replace with healthier options like good old baking soda and white vinegar and commercial brands like Seventh Generation and Method. After attending a very fun and fabulous Green Soiree during BlogHer, I have also had the chance to work with the Green Irene Enzyme line of cleaning products and have found many attributes worthy of note.
What makes Green Irene different from both toxic and non-toxic cleaners is their enzymatic process. As stated on their site, Green Irene believes that plant-derived enzymes are a better way to clean, eliminate odors and maintain a healthy home. Using task specific enzymes that pinpoint their targets, go to work rapidly biodegrading organic materials into their basic elements. All the cleaners are non-toxic, non-caustic, hypoallergenic and safe for human, animal, and plant life. They are free of harsh fumes and vapors, phosphates, chlorine and contain no
petroleum-based ingredients. Enzymes completely remove odors leaving the room smelling fresh without strong fragrances.
The starter kit includes a spray bottle and packet of cleaning solution for each type of cleaner – No Rinse Floor Cleaner, Kitchen, Stainless Steel & Glass, Bathroom, Stain & Odor Remover and Mildew Stain Eraser. Add the solution to the bottle and then fill with tap water. When it’s time to replace, just re-order the packet of cleaning solution and continue to refill and re-use the original bottle. Now that to me is a great system!
So the true test was to see how their Mold & Mildew Stain Eraser performed against that traditional cleaner. If you have ever used those other strong “bleachy” brands, you know it works. It may cause you to pass out from the fumes, but it does get the mildew off the bathroom tile. Green Irene worked as well with a little extra mild scrubbing and I didn’t have to hold my breath. Overall I was really pleased with it as an alternative. Best of all, no strong ventilation or gas mask required!
The other products worked well to0 and I also really liked the floor cleaner for my hardwoods – especially since there is no extra rinse step involved. It’s a pleasant, fresh smell that leaves the wood looking clean and polished.
Green Irene also offers a Green Home Makeover by trained Eco-Consultants to help others along their path towards greater greener living. If you are passionate about green living and looking to enhance, supplement or create a new income opportunity, the Be A Green Irene Eco-Consultant program is worth looking into as well.
Co-founded along with her husband PJ Stafford, Rosamaria Cabellero Stafford was also recently recognized by the Hispanic Congressional Caucus Institute for her entreprenuerial efforts in this green marketplace. As I’ve mentioned before I admire those women (and men) launching businesses they believe can help make a difference. So if you are interested in trying out the products or the business, you will find it’s easy to be a Green Irene!
