With back to school projects underway, there are many grant opportunities available to take advantage of. One such grant is through Nickelodeon where one million dollars will be awarded in grants to schools and community organizations enabling kids around the country to achieve the goal of a million acts of help. The Big Help Grant Program will support projects that inspire kids to:
1. Take care of the environment.
2. Lead active, healthy lives.
3. Engage in community service,
4. Improve their educational experience.
All worthy efforts for any child to embark upon.
Eligible schools include Elementary and middle schools grades K-9 (public and private not-for-profit) and after-school community-based organizations with 501(c)(3) status serving kids age 5-15.
There are two levels to request – a $2500 grant or a $5000 grant if the applicant can document a dollar-to-dollar match for a total of $10,000. Our school is considering applying for a $2500 grant to be used either for an outdoor classroom venue or for a community service project we have in the works.
Big Help partners include organizations like the National Wildlife Federation, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the National Environmental
Educational Foundation, National Parent Teacher Association, Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move campaign and Get Schooled, a joint effort between the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Viacom.
The deadline to apply for any grant is December 31, 2010 – so don’t delay to get your school some Big Help to teach students to be both Good and Green Samaritans!
