Thrill of the Hunt! A piece of the Ritz Paris for $1.49!

March 14, 2010

This week’s Thrill of the Hunt takes me overseas.  While visiting our local Goodwill, I uncovered this bath mitt made for the Ritz Hotel Paris.  Discarded on top of other unrelated items as if someone had a change of heart, the regal blue and white logo caught my eye.  After a closer look, I wondered if this was either a sample or perhaps bought in the gift shop.  It was sealed and unopened, therefore never used and so for $1.49 I grabbed it.

The mitt was made by Paris-based luxury linen producer, D. Porthault and from what I’ve gathered, the company does provides linens to the Ritz Paris. This mitt does not have the logo embroidered on it so I’m wondering by the language on the enclosed card, if this was a sample.  How it ended up in Greensboro, North Carolina I’ll never know but certainly better than being tossed aside along the way.  Anyway, it’s well made, will last a long time and just may be the closest I’ll ever get to the Ritz Paris!

In the meantime, I hope to checkout the Ritz-Carlton’s new LEED designed hotel in my neighboring city of Charlotte.  More on that later.

Until next time, au revoir!
