With a continued desire to learn and improve, coupled with a passion to share, going forward I’ll be talking about a lot of things I’ve always done in the past – like shopping for home furnishings at antique and second hand stores and finding creative uses for old items. As well, I’ll continue to share tips and resources to ramp up recycling efforts, improve eating habits and reduce energy intake, all of which can make us more resourceful in everyday life.
So with a twist of the traditional environmental 3 R’s, The Green Samaritan is simply about being kind to your environment through refined, renewed and resourceful living.
Refine – Here I’ll keep talking about how to rid yourself of that tacky plastic, styrofoam and many other disposables that require unnecessary use of resources for such a short life span. Not to mention how to get away from all that overly processed food and move towards healthier options. Don’t you feel better already?
Renew – While I like nice, new things and don’t like to pass up a great sale on something I can really use, I also love a yard sale, consignment and antique shop, junk store, Goodwill or any other second hand merchant. Treasures abound with a sense of imagination, creativity and a good eye. From books, clothing, knick-knacks and furniture, I’ll provide insight and tips on what kinds of things to look for and how to bring new life to a pre-owned item including some things of your own.
Resourceful - Why waste natural resources and money when there are easy options and ways to be smart and kind to the environment. Like in the past, I’ll continue to share tips on improving environmental habits and show just how easy it can be done with a little willpower. While I encourage buying local, any great buy I find on a new item online will be passed along as well in the Shop and Save column to the right.

This should be easy to remember. I guess it all comes down to switching our “nasty” habits to healthier ones. Whether it be for our own good of the planet’s good.
