Reminder – Taking Suggestions for The Green Samaritan of the Month for September

August 17, 2009

As we’ve posted before, one of our goals through this blog is to encourage the practice of earth-friendly deeds in everyday life.  Every month we will recognize someone as The Green Samaritan of the Month.   So far we have recognized a local girl scout in North Carolina to a CEO in California.  But don’t let the size of the project or title intimate your making a suggestion. We truly want to hear about those everyday people who are making a difference and fostering greater environmental awareness in their own personal lives and/or community…like the office assistant who is banning the use of styrofoam cups in her office and bringing in mugs for everyone or the faithful neighborhood walker who picks up trash along his route.

Here are a few definitions of the word samaritan:  “Someone who voluntarily helps someone else who is in distress” and  “a compassionate person who unselfishly helps others”.  In either of these cases, and when you plug in the green characteristic, it could be someone who is being a friend to the environment by helping others to become more aware or doing something in their world (office, school, neighborhood, etc) to make it a more eco-friendly place and thus less taxing on the earth.  Bottom line is that it is carried out with sincere intent.

If you have someone in mind – any age, anywhere, including yourself – please leave a comment or send us an email on our Contact page. In a few words, tell us about your nominee, his or her deed and why you think they should be recognized.  To be considered for September, submissions must be received by August 30th.

In addition to being featured on this blog, the Green Samaritan of the month will also be the featured tweet of the day too and will receive an electronic certificate illustrating this recognition. Check back with us to see who our Green Samaritan will be for the month of September.

Let us hear from you!
