While it is my sincere intent to practice and improve the amount of eco-friendly deeds I carry out in my everyday life, I am not going on a major shopping spree to replace everything in my world that isn’t so green. First of all, I rarely buy anything at retail price. There are too many discount coupons and sales on and offline, so good things will come for those who wait. Plus sometimes, I think, the best thing to do (as hard as that is for me…just ask my husband) is to live with what you have until the time comes for a needed replacement. And then it can be an eco-friendly option.
With that, it was time to get another set of sheets for our bed and I already decided to purchase a set made of bamboo. But as I stated earlier, I was waiting for the right deal to come along and it did at 50% off a set of Pure Fiber sheets through an online retailer – EcoSteal.
Aside from the important ecological benefits of bamboo like the fact it is the fastest growing woody plant in the world, can minimize CO2 gasses and generates 35% more oxygen than equivalent strands of trees, I had read up on the other “plush” benefits of bamboo to includ
e the softness, comfort and durability – all obvious reasons why to consider this purchase. However, I was especially interested in a few other unique features – like the fact it is naturally anti-microbial and anti-fungal. Bamboo contains a natural agent called bamboo kun which requires no harmful chemicals to prevent bacteria thereby making it odor resistant. Plus the natural and organic fibers in turn make it naturally hypoallergenic. Because bamboo offers high breathability, it acts as a thermal regulator to your body temperature keeping you comfortable no matter what the weather.
While the set we purchased is only a 250 thread count, it feels incredibly higher – certainly not like a regular cotton/poly blend. It has a great luxe look to it that even my husband noticed it right off the bat before even climbing into bed – and once he felt how soft and comfortable the sheets were…badda bing, he was sold. Now that’s a true test!
I look forward to other bamboo purchases as I’m really seeing what a great alternative this is to other materials. How about you…please leave a comment and share your experiences with any type of bamboo product you’ve purchased.
